Guruvayur Brahmana Samooham

Around 200 years ago, Tamil Brahmins migrated to Guruvayur from the Tanjore and Tirunelveli Districts in Tamil Nadu. One faction served as cooks at the palace of Punnathur Raja, the local king at the time, and also took charge of cooking at the Sree Krishna temple in Guruvayur. The other group engaged in business activities, primarily money lending, in Guruvayur.

Two prominent socio-religious organizations, known as samooha madoms, existed in Guruvayur during that period. The one located in the south nada was identified as Thalappilly Brahmana Samooham, while the one in the east nada was referred to as Paandi Panayamkulangara Samooham. In 1979, Thalappilly Samooham was officially registered under the Society Registration Act as Guruvayur Brahmana Samooham. In 1982, Paandi Panayamkulangara Samooham also joined Guruvayur Brahmana Samooham. Currently, both organizations operate under the management of Guruvayur Brahmana Samooham and are known as South Madom and East Madom.

The deity worshipped at South Madom is “Sri Simha Nada Bhagavathy,” while at East Madom, it is “Sri Dharma Sastha.” Various religious activities take place at both madoms, including Sastha Preethi, Bhagavathi Seva, Laksharchana, and Bommakolu during Navarathri, Deepavali, and Pongal celebrations.

Socially, Guruvayur Brahmana Samooham is actively engaged in charitable activities, including pension schemes, educational aid, medical assistance, and support for the needy. One notable institution affiliated with the Samooham is Sri Sankara Nilayam Guest House, established in 2009 at East Madom and featuring 24 well-equipped rooms. Additionally, South Madom boasts a spacious Kalyana Mandapom.

The latest project introduced by Guruvayur Brahmana Samooham is located at South Madom and is named “Sree Sankara Santhi Nilayam.” This new complex includes an air-conditioned marriage hall with a dining area and 23 self-contained air-conditioned rooms.

Moreover, Guruvayur Brahmana Samooham has launched the Guruvayur Darshan Scheme, a time-share initiative catering to individuals visiting Guruvayur. Details of this scheme are outlined below.
